Dua For Wearing New Clothes
It is mentioned in Ahadith that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) read this dua before wearing new clothes:
اَللّٰھُمَّ لَکَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْتَ کَسَوْتَنِیْہِ اَسْئَلُکَ، مِنْ خَیْرِہٖ وَخَیْرِ مَا صُنِعَ لَہٗ، وَاَعُوْذُبِکَ مِنْ شَرِّہٖ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَہٗ
Transliteration:
Allahumma lakal Hamdu anta kasawtanihi as-aluka’ min khairihee wakhairi ma suni-a lahu’ wa auzubika min sharrihee wa-sharri ma suni-a lahu
English Translation:
O Allah, Praise to be Thee! As Thou hast clothed me with it, I ask Thee for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in Thee from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.
Urdu Translation:
اے اللہ! تیرے ہی لیے ہر قسم کی تعریف ہے، تجھی نے مجھے یہ پہنایا، میں تجھی سے سوال کرتا ہوں اس کی بھلائی کا اور اس کام کی بھلائی کا جس کے لیے اسے بنایا گیا ہے اور میں تیری پناہ میں آتا ہوں اس کے شر سے اور اس کام کے شر سے جس کے لیے اسے بنایا گیا ہے۔
Related Hadith:
Narrated Abu Saeed al-Khudri: When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) put on a new garment, he mentioned it by name, turban or shirt, and would then say:
اَللّٰھُمَّ لَکَ الْحَمْدُ اَنْتَ کَسَوْتَنِیْہِ اَسْئَلُکَ، مِنْ خَیْرِہٖ وَخَیْرِ مَا صُنِعَ لَہٗ، وَاَعُوْذُبِکَ مِنْ شَرِّہٖ وَشَرِّ مَا صُنِعَ لَہٗ
Abu Nadrah said: When any of the Companions of the Prophet (SAW) put on a new garment, he was told: May you wear it out and may Allah give you another in its place.
Dua For Wearing Clothes
Our Prophet Muhammad (SAW) read another dua before wearing common clothes. Here, common means not new clothes but clothes we wear in our daily lives again and again. He (SAW) always starts to wear from the right side. Dua for wearing common clothes is the following:
اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰہِ الَّذِیْ کَسَانِیْ ھٰذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِیْہِ مِنْ غَیْرِ حَوْلٍ مِّنِّیْ وَلَا قُوَّۃٍ
Transliteration:
Alhumdullilahi-lazi kasani haazas-sawba warazkanihi min ghairi hawlin minni wala quwwa
English Translation:
Praise to be Allah, Who has clothed me with this and provided me with it through no might and power on my heart.
Urdu Translation:
ہر قسم کی تعریف اللہ ہی کے لیے ہے جس نے مجھے یہ لباس پہنایا اور مجھے میری ذاتی قوت اور طاقت کے بغیر یہ عطا کیا۔
Related Hadith:
Narrated Muadh ibn Anas if anyone puts on garment and says: اَلْحَمْدُ لِلّٰہِ الَّذِیْ کَسَانِیْ ھٰذَا الثَّوْبَ وَرَزَقَنِیْہِ مِنْ غَیْرِ حَوْلٍ مِّنِّیْ وَلَا قُوَّۃٍ he will be forgiven his former and later sins.
