7 Sone Ki Duas | Dua Before Sleeping

For a healthy mind and body, it is very important to get a good and restful sleep. Our Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) teaches us several supplications (duas) and Verses of the Holy Quran to recite before sleeping. By reciting these duas and Verses, we can get a peaceful and good sleep.

1. Sone Ki Dua – Dua Before Sleeping

It is quoted in several Ahadith that Muhammad (SAW) says a dua before sleeping. Following is the Dua before sleeping:

اللّٰھُمَّ بِاسْمِکَ اَمُوْتُ وَاَحْیَا

Transliteration:

Allahumma bismika amoto wa ahya

Sone Ki Dua in Urdu:

اے اللہ! تیرے ہی نام کے ساتھ میں مرتا اور زندہ ہوتا ہوں۔

Sone Ki Dua in English:

O Allah, I die and live with your name alone.

Sone Ki Dua in Hindi:

ऐ अल्लाह, मैं तेरे नाम के साथ ही मरूंगा और जिऊंगा

ai Allah, main tere naam ke saath hee maroonga aur jioonga

Related Hadith:

“ Narrated Hudaifa: When the Prophet went to bed, he would say:اللّٰھُمَّ بِاسْمِکَ اَمُوْتُ وَاَحْیَا (Allahumma bismika amuto wa ahya) and when he got up he would say:الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي أَحْيَانَا بَعْدَ مَا أَمَاتَنَا وَإِلَيْهِ النُّشُورُ “ (Sahih Bukhari Hadith# 6312)

From the above Hadith, we also came to know about the Dua we should say after getting up.

2. Sone Ki Dua – Dua For Sleeping

Narrated Hafsa Ummul Muminin: When the Messenger of Allah (SAW) wanted to go to sleep, he put his right hand under his cheek and would say three times:اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ

(Sunan Abu Dawud Hadith #5045)

From the above hadith, we find out another supplication (dua) for sleep. A person who is going to bed should say three times;

اللَّهُمَّ قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ

Allahumma kini azabaka youma tab-aso ibadak

اے اللہ مجھے (اس دن) اپنے عذاب سے بچانا جس دن تو اپنے بندوں کو اٹھائے گا۔

O’ Allah guard me from Thy punishment on the day when Thou raisest up Thy servants.

ऐ अल्लाह, जिस दिन तू अपने बन्दों को खड़ा करेगा, उस दिन मुझे अपने अज़ाब से बचा ले

ai allaah, jis din too apane bandon ko khada karega, us din mujhe apane azaab se bacha le

3.Sone Ki Dua- Dua For Sleeping

Abdullah bin Umar commanded a person that as he went to bed, he should say:

اَللّٰھُمَّ اِنَّکَ خَلَقْتَ نَفْسِیْ وَاَنْتَ تَوَفَّاھَا، لَکَ مَمَاتُھَا وَمَحْیَاھَا اِنْ اَحْیَیْتَھَا فَاحْفَظْھَا وَاِنْ اَمَتَّھَا فَاغْفِرْلَھَا، اَللّٰھُمَّ اِنِّیْٓ اَسْئَلُکَ الْعَافِیَۃَ

A person said to him: Did you hear it from Umar? Thereupon he said: ( I have heard from one ) who is better than Umar, viz. From Allah’s Messenger (SAW). Ibn Nafi reported this on the authority of Abdullah Bin Harith but he did not make mention of this that he heard it himself. (Sahih Muslim Hadith# 6888)

So we find another Dua before sleeping:

Allahumma innaka khalaqta nafsi wa anta tawaffaha’ laka mamatuha wamahyaha in ahyaytaha fahfazha wa in amattaha faghfirlaha’ Allahumma inni as-alukal aafiya

اے اللہ! تو نے میری روح پیدا فرمائی اور تو ہی اسے فوت کرے گا، تیرے ہی لیے (تیرے ہی قبضے میں) اس کی موت اور حیات ہے اگر تو اسے زندہ رکھے تو اس کی حفاظت فرمانا اور اگر تو اسے موت دے تو اسے معاف فرمانا۔ اے اللہ! بلاشبہ میں تجھ سے عافیت کا سوال کرتا ہوں۔‘‘

4. Sone Ki Dua – Dua Before Sleeping

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah’s Apostle ordered me to guard the Zakat revenue of Ramadan. Then somebody came to me and started stealing the foodstuff. I caught him and said, I will take you to Allah’s Apostle! Then Abu Huraira described the whole narration and said: That person said (to me) Please don’t take me to Allah’s Apostle, and I will tell you a few words by which Allah will benefit you. When you go to your bed, recite Ayat-al-Kursi (2.225), for then there will be a guard from Allah who will protect you all night long, and Satan will not be able to come near you till dawn. When the Prophet (SAW) heard the story, he said to me, He (who came at night) told you the truth although he is a liar, and it was Satan. (Sahih Bukhari hadith# 5010)

Above Hadith taught us that we should recite Ayat-ul-Kursi 225 verse of Surah Baqarah. It will protect us the whole night from Satan. So let’s recite:

اَللّٰہُ لَاۤ اِلٰہَ اِلَّا ہُوَۚ اَلۡحَیُّ الۡقَیُّوۡمُ ۬ ۚ لَا تَاۡخُذُہٗ سِنَۃٌ وَّ لَا نَوۡمٌ ؕ لَہٗ مَا فِی السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ مَا فِی الۡاَرۡضِ ؕ مَنۡ ذَا الَّذِیۡ یَشۡفَعُ عِنۡدَہٗۤ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِہٖ ؕ یَعۡلَمُ مَا بَیۡنَ اَیۡدِیۡہِمۡ وَ مَا خَلۡفَہُمۡ ۚ وَ لَا یُحِیۡطُوۡنَ بِشَیۡءٍ مِّنۡ عِلۡمِہٖۤ اِلَّا بِمَا شَآءَ ۚ وَسِعَ کُرۡسِیُّہُ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَ الۡاَرۡضَ ۚ وَ لَا یَـُٔوۡدُہٗ حِفۡظُہُمَا ۚ وَ ہُوَ الۡعَلِیُّ الۡعَظِیۡمُ

Allahu la illaha illa hu-wal hayyul qayyum.la ta khuzuhu sinatonw-wala nawm.lahu ma fis-samawati wa ma fil arz. Man zallazy yashfao indahu illa bi-izni. Ya lamu ma baina aidihim wa ma khalfahum’ wala yuhituna bishai-in min ilmihii illa bima shaa’ wasia kusiyyuhus-samaawaaty wal arz’ wala ya-odohu hifzuhuma’ wa huwa-l aliyu-l azeem

اللہ (وہ ہے کہ) اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں، وہ زندۂ جاوید (اور) قائم و دائم ہے۔ اسے اونگھ آتی ہے نہ نیند، اسی کا ہے جو کچھ آسمانوں میں ہے اور جو کچھ زمین میں ہے۔ کون ہے وہ جو اس کے ہاں سفارش کرسکے مگر اس کی اجازت سے؟ وہ جانتا ہے جو کچھ لوگوں کے سامنے ہے اور جو کچھ ان کے پیچھے ہے۔ اور وہ اس کے علم میں سے کسی چیز کا احاطہ نہیں کرسکتے مگر جس قدر وہ خود چاہے۔ اس کی کرسی نے آسمانوں اور زمین کو گھیر رکھا ہے اور اسے ان دونوں کی حفاظت نہیں تھکاتی اور وہ بلندتر، نہایت عظمت والا ہے

Allah- there is no deity Him, the Ever-living, the Sustainer of (all) existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is (presently) before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the most High, the Most Great.

5. Sone Ki Dua- Dua before Sleeping

In another Hadith Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: A person who recites 33 times Subhan-Allah, 33 times Alhumdulillah and 34 times Allahu-Akbar while lying on the bed is better than a servant.(Sahih Bukhari Hadith#6318)

سُبْحَانَ اللّٰہِ، اَلْحَمْدُلِلّٰہِ، اَللّٰہُ اَکْبَرُ

Subhan-Allah’ Alhmdulillah’ Allahu-Akbar

اللہ پاک ہے، ہر تعریف اللہ کے لیے ہے، اللہ سب سے بڑا ہے

Allah is Holy, All praises are due to Allah, Allah is the Greatest

6. Sone Se Pehle Ki Dua- Dua Before Sleeping

Narrated Abu Mas’ud: The Prophet said, If somebody recited the last two Verses of Surat Al-Baqara at night, that would be sufficient for him. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith#5009)

The last two verses of Surat Al-Baqara that Prophet Mohammad recited are the following:

اٰمَنَ الرَّسُوۡلُ بِمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَیۡہِ مِنۡ رَّبِّہٖ وَ الۡمُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ ؕ کُلٌّ اٰمَنَ بِاللّٰہِ وَ مَلٰٓئِکَتِہٖ وَ کُتُبِہٖ وَ رُسُلِہٖ ۟ لَا نُفَرِّقُ بَیۡنَ اَحَدٍ مِّنۡ رُّسُلِہٖ ۟ وَ قَالُوۡا سَمِعۡنَا وَ اَطَعۡنَا ٭۫ غُفۡرَانَکَ رَبَّنَا وَ اِلَیۡکَ الۡمَصِیۡرُ ﴿۲۸۵﴾ لَا یُکَلِّفُ اللّٰہُ نَفۡسًا اِلَّا وُسۡعَہَا ؕ لَہَا مَا کَسَبَتۡ وَ عَلَیۡہَا مَا اکۡتَسَبَتۡ ؕ رَبَّنَا لَا تُؤَاخِذۡنَاۤ اِنۡ نَّسِیۡنَاۤ اَوۡ اَخۡطَاۡنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَ لَا تَحۡمِلۡ عَلَیۡنَاۤ اِصۡرًا کَمَا حَمَلۡتَہٗ عَلَی الَّذِیۡنَ مِنۡ قَبۡلِنَا ۚ رَبَّنَا وَ لَا تُحَمِّلۡنَا مَا لَا طَاقَۃَ لَنَا بِہٖ ۚ وَ اعۡفُ عَنَّا ٝ وَ اغۡفِرۡ لَنَا ٝ وَ ارۡحَمۡنَا ٝ اَنۡتَ مَوۡلٰىنَا فَانۡصُرۡنَا عَلَی الۡقَوۡمِ الۡکٰفِرِیۡنَ

7. Sone Ki Dua- Dua Before Sleeping

Narrated Aisha: Whenever the Prophet (SAW) went to bed every night, he used to cup his hands together and blow over it after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq, and Surat An-Nas and then rub his hands over whatever parts of his body he was able to rub, starting with his head, face and front of his body. He used to do that three times. (Sahih Bukhari Hadith#5017)

Benefits Of Supplications(Dua) Before Sleeping

Primarily, it is the sunnah of our Prophet (SAW).
Saying duas before sleeping can cause a good and sound sleep.
We will be protected from Satan.
